La Sociedad Ornitológica Puertorriqueña, Inc. (SOPI) se complace en invitarle al 3er Festival de Aves Playeras que se celebrará el próximo 7 y 8 de septiembre en el Centro de Visitantes del Refugio Nacional de Vida Silvestre (FWS), y el Centro Interpretativo de las Salinas de Cabo Rojo.
Enfatizamos el lema del festival de este año, "Salvemos las aves playeras, Sé la solución a la contaminación", para traer atención a uno de los retos más grandes de conservación que enfrentamos hoy en día - la contaminación de plásticos en el ambiente.
El afiche oficial para el festival, diseñado por Cynthia Gotay, representa solo una de las dificultades que las aves playeras encuentran durante su viaje migratorio anual, que puede cubrir grandes distancias desde las túndras del ártico, hasta el cono sur del continente.
Durante el festival, le daremos la bienvenida a las aves playeras que visitan nuestras costas cada año, celebrando su diversidad, sus hábitats y nuestro rol en su conservación. Únete y participa de talleres y recorridos de identificación de aves, mesas informativas, exposiciones de arte y fotografía, manualidades para niños, y mucho más!
El festival cuenta con la participación de dos conferenciantes, la Dra. Adriane Tossas (UPR Aguadilla) y Edgardo Llegus (Reverdece y Educa tu Comunidad), además de participación de personal de la Reserva de Investigación Estuarina Bahía de Jobos (JBNERR), el Comité de Caborrojeños Pro-Salud y Ambiente, Yo Amo el Tinglar, entre otros. Estas actividades pueden ser certificadas como parte del programa Contacto Verde.

You're Invited! Our 3rd Annual Shorebird Festival
The Puerto Rico Ornithological Society, Inc. (SOPI) cordially invites you to our 3rd Annual Shorebird Festival that will take place during the weekend of September 7-8. The festival will take place at the Cabo Rojo National Wildlife Refuge (USFWS), and the Interpretative Center at the Cabo Rojo Salt Flats.
Our slogan for this year's festival, "Save our shorebirds, be the solution to plastic pollution" highlights just one of the many conservation challenges that we face in our current environment.
The official festival poster, designed by Cynthia Gotay, depicts just one way shorebirds are affected by plastic pollution during their annual migration, an impressive feat that covers large distances. Shorebirds can travel from the arctic tundra to the southernmost places in South America.
Join us in welcoming these visitors to our shores, and celebrate their importance with us! During the festival, we will have bird identification workshops, bird watching walks, informative tables, art and photography exhibitions, arts and crafts for kids, and much more!
Presenters, partners and collaborators for the festival include: Dr. Adrienne Tossas (UPR Aguadilla), Eduardo Llegus (Reverdece y Educa tu Comunidad), the Jobos Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (JBNERR), Committee Caborrojeños Pro-Salud y Ambiente, Yo Amo el Tinglar, among others. The Shorebird Festival is eligible for the "Contacto Verde" program, and we will be available to certify your hours during the event.
